The Bible talks about three different categories of spiritual gifts:
1) Ministry Gifts – listed in Ephesians 4:11. These are given by Jesus to those He selects for the purpose of equipping believers to do the work of the ministry. These gifts are given to those to serve in an office of ministry they are – the apostle, prophet, evangelist, teacher and pastor.
2) Gifts of the Holy Spirit – listed in 1Corinthians 12:1-11. These are supernatural gifts given by the Holy Spirit to be used to help minister to the body of Christ. They are nine different gifts.
3) Motivational Gifts – listed in Romans 12:4-8. These are given by God to each member of the body of Christ. They are abilities given to each member of the body of Christ to function together as a whole.
“For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7 or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.” Romans 12:4-8
The spiritual gifts we are talking about here are these motivational gifts. There are several different motivational gifts and each gift can function in everyone but there is a dominate gift in each person. This dominate gift is important in who God has made you to be and is critical to your purpose.
The following is a test you can take to help identify your dominate gift.
