What Will You Do With Your Life?

What will you do with your life?

God has a specific plan for your life, a divine purpose. You have been uniquely designed and equipped by God for that purpose. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do…” There is no one else exactly like you. There is no one who can live out your exact purpose except you. That is why it is critical for you to discover your purpose and fulfill it!

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

You have only one life to live. We can choose to do one of  three things with that life;

1) Waste it; 2) Spent it; 3) Invest it

Obviously the right choice is to invest our life by living out the purpose and destiny God has for us. This means investing our lives in things that count for eternity. Hebrews 12:1 tells us to “… run with perseverance the raceset before us…”. There is a race God has given us to run – it is our purpose. Our assignment is to discover what that race is and then run our race to the finish. There is nothing more exciting, nothing more fulfilling, and nothing more energizing than discovering God’s purpose and fulfilling!

So, how do you know what God’s purpose is?

First, His purpose for our lives will always be focused on two things:

1) People – reaching, ministering, and discipling.

2) His kingdom – the Kingdom of God – working to build and expand the kingdom of God.

Second, our purpose is not our occupation, business, abilities, giftings, position, etc. In other words if you are educated to be a doctor or teacher that is not your purpose. If you are gifted as a singer or musician that is not your purpose. These are abilities given to you by God to help fulfill your purpose. Remember God’s purpose will always be about reaching, encouraging, helping, exhorting, teaching, leading, etc people and/or to build, strengthen, increase, multiply, expand the Kingdom. So, if you are a doctor you will have opportunity to impact people not only by helping them with their medical needs but you will be able to minister the love and power of God into their life.

Thirdly, to discover your purpose requires putting the Word of God into our lives. God reveals His will for our lives through His Word. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, And light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105) So, spend time in His Word.

Fourthly, we need to listen to the leading of the Holy Spirit. As a Christian the Spirit of God lives in us and He will guide us and help us if we will listen and allow Him to direct our lives. “Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit” (1Corinthians 6:19) Trust the Holy Spirit to lead and empower you, and you will succeed in fulfilling the Lord’s mission for your life.

Fifthly, ask God what His will and purpose is for your life. He is not trying to keep His purpose for your life a secret. He wants you to walk out your destiny. “You have not because you ask not”. (James 4:3)

You can discover your purpose and live out your destiny! God has a daily blueprint for your life that He is unfolding before you. Nobody else can fulfill your specific destiny. It is never too late to discover the joy and fulfillment and the amazing grace of God’s purpose for your life.
