Doing What’s Right

“So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.”                          James 4:17

There is a saying I heard years ago that I have adopted for myself and have shared many times with staff and congregation members. It’s a very simple statement that says, “It’s always right to do right. It is never wrong to do right. It is never right to do wrong.”

The reason I share that is because of what we see in our society and culture today, where morality has become a relative term. People say, “If that’s what you believe fine and good for you, but don’t impose your beliefs and morals on me.”  Our culture today has fallen into an era of moral relativism unlike any our nation has ever seen.

Moral relativism simply means each person can define what is right and what is wrong,  there are no absolutes.  Philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche wrote, “You have your way, I have my way. As for the right way, it does not exist.”

That is total deception and nothing could be further from the truth.  It may make for a good philosophical discussion and may sooth someone’s conscience. However, “What’s right is right!” And in the sight of God, we must take decisive action and stand by what He says is true.  We must choose to follow the direction of the Lord and stay with it, because it will never fail. And while the world will go back and forth like the waves of the sea, God’s truth remains unchanged.

You may find yourself struggling with doing what is right in a certain situation. You know what God wants you to do. You know what the right thing to do is. The question you have to ask yourself is  “Am I going to do it?” God’s Word will never lead you astray. So step out in faith and do what is right. You’ll never regret it!

IT’S ALWAYS RIGHT TO DO WHAT’S RIGHT. SO WHEN FACED WITH A TOUGH DECISION, DO WHAT GOD SAYS AND YOU’LL BE GLAD YOU DID!
