Obtaining the Promises

The Bible is like a treasure chest, it is filled with great riches, however, the treasure is not money, gold or jewels it is the PROMISES OF GOD. 2Peter 1:3-4 (NLT) tell us, “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.” God has given you these great and precious promises through Christ so you can have everything you need to live a successful and victorious Christian life. The real question becomes how then do you obtain these promises for your life?

There are 3 important keys you need to have and use in order to obtain the promises of God.

1) You Need to Trust God.

A promise is only as good as the one making the promise. If someone promised to give you a million dollars, but they had no money and were not the most reliable person you would not have any real expectation of receiving that promise. You would not trust that person to do what they said. The good news is God is faithful and He is able to perform what He has promised. (Romans 4:21) God makes sure what He has said comes to pass. (Isaiah 55:11) Not only is God faithful to what He has said. He is also able to do – the things He says He will do.  “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think…” (Ephesians 3:20 NKJV) There is absolutely nothing too hard for God. (Jeremiah 32:27) God is not only reliable, He is more than able. YOU CAN TRUST GOD!  It is a key to obtaining the promises of God.

2) You Need to Know the Promises

Not only do you need to trust God you need to know what God has promised. You cannot receive what you do not know has been given to you by promise. The promises of God are given in His Word. There are over 3000 promises buried in the Bible. Begin today digging into His Word to uncover the treasures that belong to you. When you know what God has promised faith comes. Faith is believing and speaking what God’s Word says. (2Corinthians 4:13) To know the promises of God you must read, hear, meditate, and memorize His Word. YOU CAN KNOW HIS PROMISES!  It is a key to obtaining the promises of God.

3) You Need to Be Patient

The hard part of receiving the promises of God is the waiting between declaring the promise and actually receiving it! The Christian life would be easy if receiving the promises of God were quick and fast, but instead you need patience to receive the promises. Hebrews 6:12 tells us, “We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.” We all want to read the promise one day and get it the next. However, the life of faith is not like that. Often we encounter storms and uncertainties along the way that try to discourage us and create doubt in our hearts. Don’t let go of the promises of God. Hold fast to what He has promised. (Hebrews 10:23) If God has promised it, then that promise is true, and God will not change His mind. You can count on the promises of God. “All of the promises of God are yes and amen…” (1Corinthians 1:20), but YOU WILL NEED PATIENCE! It is a key to obtaining the promises of God.

You can obtain every promise of God you need for your life.   Just stay patient, trust God, and know what promises He has for you.
