Making Course Corrections…

coorecting the course of life

Do you need course correction

Did you know commercial flights continually drift off course and are making course corrections? A plane that’s off course by just a degree will miss its intended destination by 92 feet for every mile it continues off course, that equals about one mile for every sixty miles flown. One degree off could be the difference between making a safe landing at the place you want to be or needing a floatation device in the Pacific ocean. That’s why the plane has a pilot and avionics equipment to continually put the plane back on course so that it arrives safely at its destination.

Just like planes get off course our lives can drift off course. No one intentionally gets off course. It happens slowly and over time and if course corrections are not made tragedy is inevitable. We need to be making course corrections through out life. Along life’s journey, just like a plane, we can face unexpected turbulence, headwinds, downdrafts, wind shear, and storms that knock us off course.  It is important to be alert and to continually be making course corrections to keep us on the right course.

There are two important keys that can helps in making the right course corrections.   The first, is keeping our eyes fixed on the Lord. Hebrews 12:1-2 says, “And let us run with endurance the race (our life) God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.” Jesus keeps us on track and going the right direction. There is no changing, wandering,  or shifting with Him. (James 1:17)  Jesus is like the “North Star” always steady and visible to be used by navigators to stay on course.

In this world, we are the pilot of our life. To safely reach your destination we must be prepared to make needed course corrections, however often we don’t realize we’re off course until it’s too late. Just as it’s hard to recognize being one degree off while flying at 30,000 feet, it can be just as hard to recognize the “one degree shifts” in our daily lives. Just like a pilot depends on his avionic instruments to help monitor and guide him we have the Holy Spirit to help warn and guide us. This is the second key to helping us make the right course corrections.  The Holy Spirit is on board our life to help guide us through the perils of life. “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” (John 16:13 NKJV)

If you are on course, great just stay alert! If you aren’t, make the needed corrections and get back on track. There is no need to panic if you’re off course. Drifting off course doesn’t have to result in disaster. Just make in-flight “course corrections”! So remember –

  1. Stay focused on Jesus and

  2. Allow the Holy Spirit to help warn and guide you
