Focus – Key for Effective Leadership

Focus is a key to effective leadership.  Light gives us a great example of the power of focus. Light is a tremendous blessing to our lives.  Lighting is a powerful resource.  If you’ve ever been in a storm or in a situation where you’ve lost electricity and don’t have the luxury of all the normal lighting, you are quickly reminded of how dependent you are on light.  Everyone begins scrambling for flashlights or candles.  Even thought light in that format is a powerful resource,  if you focus light down to a narrow beam called a laser the power of that light is increased exponentially.  That is the power of FOCUS.

As leaders we need to utilize the power of focus. Great leaders are able to become laser focused to achieve great success.  Focus is defined as concentrating energy on something, achieving a distinct vision, or attending to the right thing.  Focus doesn’t just happen.   Focus requires intentional and purposeful application.

Leaders who utilize the power of focus get results.  The challenge for many is becoming distracted or focusing on the wrong things.  Becoming laser focused is complicated by the fact most leaders have many demands and a long list of things that need attention.  Regardless of how many things  you want or need to accomplish, you must focus on the most important. You will always move toward what you focus on, so it is critical not only to be focused, but to be laser focused on the right things.

Effective leaders develop the ability to quickly evaluate and discern what truly is important, usually  — people, values, character, commitment, and their mission and focus on those things.
Are you an effective leader?   Learn to focus on what is truly important and what you want to achieve and you will be a more effective leader.
