Expect the Worst and Hope for the Best?

Expect the Best

Have you ever said, “expect the worst and hope for the best” or heard someone else say that phrase? I know that people mean well when they make that statement. I realize what they are trying to say, that we should be prepared if something doesn’t go according to plan. BUT, this is not the statement we need to be declaring over our lives.

Why? We cannot be hoping and believing for the best if we’re expecting the worst. Expecting is really FAITH! “Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for.” Hebrews 11:1

EXPECT THE BEST!

I want to encourage you DON”T expect the worst – EXPECT THE BEST. Focus your faith on the promises of God.

David EXPECTED God would help him defeat the Giant.

Daniel EXPECTED God would deliver him from the den of lions

The woman with the issue of blood EXPECTED Jesus would heal her.

Abraham EXPECTED God to keep His promise that he would be the father of many nations.

We can’t believe for increase if we expect lack.

We can’t believe for our healing if we expect to be sick.

We can’t believe for our children to serve God if we expect them to fail.

We can’t believe for protection and safety if we expect calamity and disaster.

We can’t believe for the best if our expectation (faith) is for the worst.

Our expectations (faith) are not built on some wishful feelings or selfish desires, but on the solid promises in the Word of God and on the faithfulness of God. We are to be like Abraham. “who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, …He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.” (Romans 4:18,20,21)

What are you expecting? Where is your faith?

Our expectations(faith) rest in God, who He is, what He said He would do, and what He already has done. We expect God to direct our steps, to watch over us, to provide for us, and to show us His favor continually. We expect the best – that is our faith.

So, I challenge you to expect the best every day!

My soul, wait only upon God and silently submit to Him; for my hope and expectation are from Him. Psalms 62:5
