Joy is what the the kingdom is. (Romans 14:17) Joy is how we serve the Lord. (Psalms 100:2) Joy is like a medicine. ( Proverbs 17:22) Real joy is unique to the Christian. It is a fruit of the spirit. Joy is our strength. (Nehemiah 8:10) If you lose your joy, you lose your strength. Joy is the strength that enables us to press through and keep the faith through the journey of life. Joy is a key to Christian living.

The question is how do you keep your joy? There are two main keys needed to have real joy and keep it.

1) Choose Joy! Psalm 118: 24 says, “This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Notice joy is a matter of our will. “We will” rejoice and be glad. In other words joy is a choice. Every day you need to make a conscience decision to choose joy. Life is filled with disappointments, set backs, and challenges that try to rob your joy. Our joy is not just a feeling. There are times you may not feel like rejoicing, but choose to rejoice. Joy is a choice.

2) Stay focused on Jesus. Jesus alone is the source of true joy. Psalm 16:11 says, “In His presence is fullness of joy.” To keep your joy just stay in His presence. Joy is not found in more stuff, more fame, more money, or any other thing. It is easy to get distract and to start looking for joy in all the wrong places. If we try to manufacture our own joy it will not last and ultimately fail. True joy is only found in the person of Jesus. Rest in Him, worship Him, trust Him, stay focused on Him and you will experience true joy everyday of your life.

Being joyful is a key to living the Christian life.
